Smith College is located in Northampton, Massachusetts, a two hour drive from Boston, one hour from Hartford, Connecticut, and three and a half hours from New York City. It is a lovely setting that combines the best of rural America with the sophistication, culture and ambiance of the city. Locals pride themselves in knowing that this charming and interesting town is one of the best-kept secrets of the U.S. Smith is a member of the Five-College Consortium which includes Amherst, Hampshire and Mt. Holyoke Colleges and the University of Massachusetts. The Berkshires are an hour to the west.


Travel:  
Northampton may be reached by bus from New York and Boston; Amtrak trains from those locations stop in Springfield, Massachusetts, 30 minutes south, and transfer may be made to the Peter Pan Bus Line. (The bus station is a short walk from campus.) The nearest airport to Northampton is Hartford/Bradley (BDL), a 45 minute drive, or you may make arrangements for an airport shuttle van through Valley Transporter (413) 549-1350. Boston/Logan (BOS) is a 2 1/2-hour drive.
