Smith welcomed 70 accomplished alumnae to campus April 20-22 for “Smith College: Changing the Face of Science and Engineering.” Graduates ranging from the class of 1950 to 2005 gathered to share career insights with students and faculty and to learn more about the college’s ambitions for leadership in science and engineering. A highlight of the program was a panel discussion, at which students, faculty and alumnae received valuable advice about succeeding as a woman in science today.

	30 percent of Smith students major in the sciences: Smith far outpaces the national figures for the proportion of undergraduate science degrees awarded to women. First in the nation: Smith was the first U.S. women’s liberal arts college to offer an engineering program. The Picker Engineering Program was launched in 1999. 100 student-faculty research projects: Each year more than 100 students work with faculty on research projects in the sciences and engineering.
