ABOUT THE BOARD

"The College should be governed by the Trustees who shall have and may exercise all the powers of the College."* In accordance with the by-laws, the Smith College Board of Trustees includes:

Trustees elected by the Board of Trustees to hold office for a term of five years;

five Alumnae Trustees, one nominated each year by the Alumnae Association and elected by the Board of Trustees, to hold office for a term of five years;

two Head of Student Government trustees, one elected each year by the Board of Trustees, to hold office for a term of two years following graduation;

the president of the Alumnae Association, as a member ex officio so long as she holds the office;

the president of the college, as a member ex officio so long as s/he shall continue in office.

The Board of Trustees holds four scheduled meetings each year.  Special meetings of the trustees may be called by the chair of the board, the president, or by any other officer of the board upon written application of three or more trustees. A majority of the trustees in office and present in person shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business.
