Student rooms are equipped with college-owned telephones for students’ personal use. Each student telephone includes a voice mailbox on the Smith voicemail system and is able to make on-campus, local and 800 calls. Students can make long-distance calls from their room telephone using either pre-paid phOneCards or calling cards. Student telephones are serviced by the college, telephone problems should reported to the User Support Center at extension 4487. Students should not try to establish billing accounts against their campus telephone number with any local or long distance carriers. More information on student the telephone and voicemail service can be found at

or by contacting Mary Clayton at extension 2082. Temporary housing locations are handled on a case by case basis.
Voice Directory System
The Voice Directory (which is entirely separate from the voicemail system), uses speech recognition to connect callers to students, staff, faculty, and departments on-campus. To use the system dial 0 from on-campus or 413 584-2700 from off campus, and say the person or place to which you want to be connected. Each student should access the system to record their name prompt. To do so, access the system as describe above, and say "Administration". Follow the prompts using your 99# for both your User ID and Password. For information on the Voice Directory and recording your name prompt, go to
http://www.smith.edu/its/tara/telephones/voice_directory.html.
