Face Time

Jan Arbaugh ’07

THE BASICS:

Where are you from?

Kailua, Hawaii, it's a suburb of Honolulu on the island of Oahu.

Did you always know you wanted to come to Smith?

I always knew I wanted to go east but didn't have a specific school in mind at first. Once I started looking, I realized that I really loved Smith, and that this was the place for me.

NOW THE FUN STUFF:

with Elan McCollum ’08

Who gets the most face time with you?

Michaela LeBlanc definitely gets the most face time with me. Between
studying, SGA Cabinet, and the job search, I probably see her the most.

What are you reading now?

I am re-reading Barbarians at the Gate, by Bryan Burrough and John
Helyar. It's the book I turn to when I want to unwind.

What is your favorite movie?

Ghostbusters or Mean Girls.

If you suddenly had two hours of free time, what would you do?

Go into town, get a good book, and just sit in Starbucks and read.

What is your favorite wall hanging in your room?

My mom sent me a postcard of a painting of Lanikai Beach, which is one
of my favorite places in the world. I always make sure it is hanging up
in my room somewhere.

Do you vote?

I do vote, but I have to do it by absentee ballot.

What do you think about the weather in New England?

I love the weather, seeing the seasons change is wonderful.

Is there any time in your life you wish you could do over?

Yes, when I started to think about declaring a major, I wish I had
looked ahead and realized that I would be declaring a double major in
Mathematics. Then I could have started on it sooner, and been able to
take my time with it.

Without searching for the information...Do you know how Paradise Pond got its name?

I have no idea.

What single piece of advice would you give to President Christ?

Continue to help fund all of the wonderful events that Smith
Organizations bring to campus. Some of the best experiences outside the
classroom can be found in the events that student organizations put on,
but these wonderful opportunities cost money.
