Elan McCollum ’08

THE BASICS:

Where are you from?

Hyattsville, MD, right outside of Washington, D.C.

Did you always know you wanted to come to Smith?

Nope. I gave my mother one choice in the college application process. She chose I apply to Smith. I came to visit and fell in love. I knew this was the college for me.

NOW THE FUN STUFF:

What are you reading now?

I just finished A Day with a Perfect Stranger by David Gregory. It is a phenomenal book, everyone should read it.

What is your favorite movie?

My favorite movie of all time is The Lion King. On a more grown up note, I love Ray. Jamie Foxx is an amazing actor.

If you suddenly had two hours of free time, what would you do?

SHOP!

What is your favorite wall hanging in your room?

I have a picture of my late grandfather knocking someone out in the boxing ring above my bed. It is a reminder to keep going and to get the final knock out…my degree.

Do you vote?

I vote at home when I remember to apply for my absentee ballot. There was some controversy over early voting in the last elections.

If you could live during any period in time and in any place -- when and where?

I wouldn’t want to live in any other time and place but here and now.

What do you think about the weather in New England?

COLD!

Is there any time in your life you wish you could do over?

Everything I have done in my past has modeled me into the person I am today. I wouldn’t trade any of it for the world…well, maybe the whole world.

Without searching for the information...Do you know how Paradise Pond got its name?

Not a clue.

What single piece of advice would you give to President Christ?

Continue to listen to students' concerns and move forward with goals
and initiatives to make Smith an even better experience for all
students.
