Junior Engineer Takes Financial Reins of National Association

Amal Osman ’07 was recently named treasurer of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), an organization committed to fostering culturally responsible African-American engineers.

As treasurer, Osman, a mechanical engineering major, will work with the society’s financial experts in managing its holdings while seeking to increase investments.

Osman has been a member of NSBE since her high school days in Boston, when she founded a junior chapter of the organization. She received a Golden Torch Award from the association in high school as the Pre-College Female Student of the Year. Osman has served as the NSBE corporate programs assistant and last year as a regional finance chair.

With 270 chapters and 18,000 members, NSBE is the largest student-managed association in the United States. Founded at Purdue University in 1975, NSBE is now headquartered at Alexandria, Va.
