Longtime Staffers Honored Before Departing

Exactly 821 collective years of service were celebrated on July 28 when members of the college community gathered to honor 31 longtime Smith employees, all of whom have accepted the college’s voluntary severance package.

The 31 employees, who worked in Residence and Dining Services, Physical Plant, the Department of Public Safety and the Botanic Garden, retired from Smith during the summer. Their names are listed below.

At the celebration, Bill Brandt, director of campus operations and facilities, gave introductory remarks before Lianne Sullivan-Crowley, executive director of human resources and administrative services, awarded 25-year service pins to honorees. The employees were then honored by department.

In Residence and Dining Services, Paula Barslow served for 23 years; David Buckingham, 17 years; Mary Ann Cabana, 16; Katherine Day, 32; Sandy Donaldson, 32; Mayona Kirtland, 32; Helen Magdycz, 20; Nancy Rubeck, 32; Joan Shepard, 38; Judith Wancyzk, 29; and Donald Zielenski, 20.

In Physical Plant, Ed Berube served for 21 years; Miguel Candelaria, 30; Larry Carlson, 37; Connie Dragon, 18; Ed Frew, 27; Jim Gregory, 26; Dennis Lafreniere, 24; Pat Lizek, 29; Nancy Martin, 20; John Moruzzi, 24; Tim Moynahan, 16; Denny Reardon, 41; Frieda Reyor, 37; Dave Schirch, 21; Tim Straw, 25; and Wells Swanda, 28.

Sharon Rust served for 26 years in the Department of Public Safety.

In the Botanic Garden, Maryjane Beach served 25 years; Bill Belden, 25 years; and Susan Schaffner for 30 years.
