In January 2012, the Smith College Board of Trustees appointed a 12-member search committee to identify and recommend a candidate to succeed President Carol T. Christ upon her retirement in June 2013. The committee was chaired by Smith alumna and trustee Louise Parent, Class of 1972.
“Smith College has an extraordinary tradition of effective and inspirational leadership,” noted Parent in announcing the search. “The person we choose will possess a vision for Smith that will both sustain the college as a premier institution of higher education and expand its global impact.”
Over the following months, the committee engaged the broader Smith community in discussions about leadership for the college’s future and communicated regularly about developments in the search process.
