Most forms mentioned below are available online or in the Office of the Class Deans, College Hall 101. Please pay close attention to deadline dates!

If you have specific questions after reading the information and guidelines, talk with the assistant in your class dean's office, or make an appointment to speak with your class dean.

Accelerate

Please read our guide to Accelerated Course Programs.

Type directly onto the Request for Acceleration form. Once the form is completed, print it and obtain all signatures required. Submit the form to the Class Deans Office.

Add or drop a class

Complete and submit the Course Change (PDF) form to the Class Deans Office.

A student may not drop a course after the end of the fifth week of classes. However, on two and only two occasions during her years at Smith College—once during her first year; once during any subsequent year—a student may drop a course at any time up to the end of the ninth week of classes, for any reason, without penalty. The drop form requires signatures of the instructor, adviser and class dean and is only available in the Class Deans Office, College Hall 101.

Change my adviser

Please type directly onto the Drop/Change of Major/Minor/Certificate/Concentration or Change Adviser Form . Once the form is completed, print it and obtain all signatures required. Submit the form to the Class Deans Office, College Hall 101 before NOON on Friday.

Change my grading option

Complete and submit a Change of Grading Option form (PDF).

Change the level of a course

Please type directly onto the the Petition to the Administrative Board for an Exception to an Academic Regulation form. Once the form is completed, print it and obtain all signatures required. Submit the form to the Class Deans Office.

Declare my major or minor or certificate or concentration

Please type directly onto the Declaration of Major or Minor or Certificate or Concentration form . Once the form is completed, print it and obtain all signatures required. Submit the form to the registrar's office.

Do a special studies

Complete and submit a Special Studies/Advanced Studies Registration Supplement (PDF) the Class Deans Office.

Some language and science courses earn more than 4 credits.

Drop or change my major

Drop or change my minor

Complete and submit a Drop/Change of Major/Minor/Certificate/Concentration or Change Adviser Form . to the Class Deans Office College Hall 101.

Enroll in a course after the deadline

Complete and submit before noon on Friday the Petition to the Administrative Board for an Exception to an Academic Regulation to the Class Deans Office.

Enroll in two classes with a time conflict

Please type directly onto the Petition to the Administrative Board for an Exception to an Academic Regulation form. Once the form is completed, print it and obtain all signatures required. Submit the form to the Class Deans Office before NOON on Friday.

Enter a seminar before junior year

Complete and submit before noon on Friday the Petition to the Administrative Board for an Exception to an Academic Regulation to the Class Deans Office.

Enter senior year with a credit shortage

Please type directly onto the Petition to Enter the Senior Year with a Credit Shortage form . Once the form is completed, print it and obtain all signatures required. Submit the form to the Registrar's Office.

  • Smith College Twelve College Exchange Guidelines provides information and procedures for studying at: Amherst College, Bowdoin College, Connecticut College, Connecticut College - NTI, Dartmouth College, Mount Holyoke College, Trinity College, Vassar College, Wellesley College, Wesleyan College, Wheaton College, or Williams-Mystic Seaport Program.

    Complete and submit a Twelve College Exchange Application to the Class Deans Office.

Spend my senior year elsewhere

Complete and submit a Senior Year Elsewhere form to the Class Deans Office.

Once the form is completed, print it and submit the form with the course descriptions to the Class Deans Office.
