Daniel David Rist earned a master's from Carnegie–Mellon University in lighting and technical production. At Smith, he has designed sets and lights for many productions, including House of Blue Leaves and Roosters. He is also the resident set and lighting designer for New Century Theatre, having designed all of the company's lighting and much of their scenery since its beginnings.
Additional theatre credits include Children's Theatre of Massachusetts and Arena Civic Theatre. Dance credits include the Five College Dance Department, the Stoneleigh–Burnham School of Dance, the Berkshire Ballet at the Albany, New York performing arts center and many designs for Pioneer Valley Ballet, including 14 years as designer and production manager for its annual Nutcracker. Rist also designed Nutcracker for the Boston Ballet Theatre and has assisted for the Trisha Brown Dance Company at Smith College and designed the premier of Daphney Lowells' Kiva.
