Step 7. Dreamweaver Users, Save your Site Definitions

Your Dreamweaver site definitions are stored on your hard drive (C:), so you must take steps to save them so they can be imported to the new system. Follow the instructions below to export your site definitions to your H: drive. Once you have your new system, import your site definitions to your new hard drive.

Export Dreamweaver site Definitions

  1. Open Dreamweaver.

  2. Open the Site menu and choose Manage Sites.

  3. In the Manage Sites window, highlight the name of the site you want to export, click Export. To export multiple site definitions at once, use the Shift and Control keys to select the sites you want.

  4. In the Export Site dialog box, select Back up my settings and click OK.

  5. In the next dialog box, navigate to your H: drive and save your site definitions in a folder (e.g., site definitions). If you selected multiple site definitions, all will be copied into this folder even though only one filename (sitename.ste) shows in the field.

  6. Click Save.

  7. When you're finished, click Done to close the Manage Sites window.

Note: When you export a site definition, Dreamweaver writes the settings into an XML file with a ".ste" extension. Do not change, add, or remove anything in these files.

Import your Site Definitions

  1. Open Dreamweaver on your new computer.

  2. Open the Site menu and choose Manage Sites.

  3. In the Manage Sites window, click on the Import button.

  4. Dreamweaver will a new site name called Unnamed Site 1 to the list. This is a placeholder for the name of the site you want to import.

  5. Navigate to the [sitename].ste file you want to import, select it, and click OK.

  6. In a few seconds, your imported site name will appear in the list, replacing Unnamed Site 1.

  7. Repeat steps 3 through 6 for each site definition you wish to import.

  8. When you are finished, click Done to save your new site list and close the Manage Sites window.
