Dean Hovey is responsible for the overall operations and programming of the office, including program evaluation and student advising. She serves on the Committee for Study Abroad and is responsible for Smith's Junior Year Abroad programs. She also serves as a director of the Lewis Global Studies Center.

Dean Johnson oversees Smith student applications and participation in study abroad programs, including student advising, approval for study abroad and transfer of academic credit earned through study abroad.

Jennie Kratz '18

Jennie is a senior Government major with a minor in Education and Child Studies, and a concentration in Women's Education. She spent her junior year abroad in Copenhagen with DIS studying Child Development and Gender Studies, and she then used Praxis to stay in Copenhagen over the summer and intern at a nonprofit organization which allowed her to cross-culturally compare attitudes regarding feminism. She is excited to work as a Peer Adviser as a way to stay connected to her study abroad experience and to help others take advantage of Smith's study abroad opportunities.

Helena is a Government major and History minor from London, UK. Last Spring she studied abroad in Switzerland on the Smith in Geneva program on the internship track. She is excited to discuss the range of international experiences on offer, and wants to help other students find a study abroad program that works for them. The application process can seem daunting, and Helena aspires to help make studying abroad experience run smoothly.


Gretchen Walch '18

Gretchen is a Biochemistry major. She spent the summer of 2015 in Nairobi, Kenya through the Smith College Global Engagement Seminar. After taking Kiswahili courses through the Five College Center for the Study of World Languages, she spent the summer of 2016 in Zanzibar studying Kiswahili at the State University of Zanzibar. She then spent 11 months in Nairobi, Kenya studying at United States International University - Africa during the 2016-17 Academic Year through KEI. She looks forward to opening up fellow students to the many study abroad opportunities Smith has to offer.
