Healthcare & Insurance
In order to ensure compliance with Massachusetts’ mandate on health insurance coverage, all SSW students are automatically enrolled in and billed for the School’s health insurance plan. If you have separate coverage, you may waive enrollment.
Waiving the School’s Health Plan
If you have your own coverage and wish to waive the School’s plan, you must provide the School with the name and address of your insurance company, your policy number and a copy of the policy for verification.
All returning students who wish to waive enrollment in the School’s health plan must complete waivers in July. New students complete waivers in the spring before their first summer term and again in July for the following year. The School sends detailed information about the deadlines and how to complete the waiver by e-mail and posts them on The Buzz.
Student Injury & Sickness Insurance Plan
The Student Injury & Sickness Insurance Plan is a comprehensive policy offered by HPHC Insurance Company, an affiliate of Harvard Pilgrim Heath Care. The policy provides inpatient and outpatient hospital services, mental health, diagnostic testing and lab services, and other specialty benefits.
All registered full-time graduate students taking 3/4 of full-time credit hours or more are automatically enrolled in this insurance plan at registration, unless they furnish proof of comparable coverage.
New for 2016-2017:
You must fill prescriptions at a UHCP network pharmacy with a three-tier structure for co-pays ($15/$35/$60).
Length of Plan
Students are covered under the student health insurance plan through the end of the policy year (including after a student graduates). There is no option to continue coverage after this policy terminates.
