Orientation is always an exciting and inspiring set of events. This summer Orientation is scheduled on Friday, May, 31st and Sunday, June 2nd, to welcome our incoming and returning students.
The agenda of the weekend can be found here , please join us for at least some of the events.
You are encouraged to come to Convocation, Sunday, June 2nd from 4:30‐5:30 p.m. in Weinstein Auditorium where Evie Litwock will give a talk on Our Journey to Fearless Activism. Evie is the founder and executive director of Witness to Mass Incarceration (WMI).
WMI’s mission is to end mass incarceration by placing formerly incarcerated women and LGBTQIA+ experiences at the center of the fight for alternatives to mass incarceration.
Adjunct Social Connector Carter Carter will lead a walking tour of Northampton culminating in a social hour at a restaurant downtown.
Please meet at the King/Scale Dining Hall. The tour will begin at 5:15 p.m until 7:00 p.m. so that anyone wishing to go to Pedagogy and Diversity can walk over together.
The ARCC is an important multi‐constituent committee at SSW charged with monitoring our progress towards greater anti‐racism. We have been highly active over the past few years.
The Committee will be meeting throughout the summer on Mondays evenings (beginning June 10th) from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. in the King Living Room, excluding break week.
On Monday, August 5th the meeting will gather to share and listen in light of this weekend's mass shootings
The Dean's office will be hosting two New Faculty Orientations each term. Orientation is required for new faculty and I highly encourage faculty who have been here for three or fewer years to attend. Of course, everyone is welcome!
Term 1: Monday, June 3rd or Thursday, June 6th from 6:00‐8:00 p.m. in a Lilly Hall Conference Room. Dinner will be provided. RSVP here.
Term 2: Monday, July 15th or Thursday, July 18th from 6:00‐8:00 p.m. in a Lilly Hall Conference Room. Dinner will be provided. RSVP here.
There will be a dinner gathering for all faculty during the summer. This dinner will provide an opportunity for faculty to ask questions, address concerns, and simply build connections during your time working in the SSW program. This summer the gathering in term 2 will be held on Thursday August 1st from 5:30-7:00 p.m. in the Scales Living Room.
Chairs of the resident Faculty host all adjunct faculty in gatherings to show appreciation for their hard work and dedication to our students over the summer. This event is open to all teaching instructors. This gathering in term 2 will be held on Thursday, July 25th from 5:30-7:00 p.m. in Haven House.
We strongly encourage all instructors and advisers to attend Pedagogy and Diversity. P&D is a signature part of Smith SSW teaching. You will have a chance to connect with other instructors and advisers as we discuss and sort through the complex issues that come up in the classroom.
Professor Josh Miller and Adjunct Faculty Carter Carter will co‐facilitate these seminars in term 1 and Josh Miller and Adjunct Faculty Nichole Wofford will co-facilitate in Term 2. CEs are provided for those who attend five or more sessions.
We are pleased to offer P&D on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:00‐9:00 p.m. in Seelye 101.

The Federal Government has increased our compliance requirements over recent years. To stay in compliance and to make the trainings easy to access, we are offering all mandatory training online (Title IX, FERPA, ADA).
You will find them in the Staff Guide
These will be covered in the new faculty orientation, as well.
We are planning to offer pedagogical consultations during lunch and dinner hours this summer on a reservations basis.
Full time faculty, Director of the Office of Disability Services Laura Rauscher, will be available to consult 1:1 about questions and issues regarding how best to implement universal access teaching strategies.
Please let us know if you are interested in setting up a meeting through the Summer Faculty Feedback Form.
