During March our profession celebrates Social Work Month. This year, the NASW’s theme, "Elevate Social Work," calls us to share the ways social work has touched the lives of those we serve. The NASW’s rationale urges us to “educate the public about the contributions social workers have made to our society and why the profession is so vital to our nation.”
Smith College School for Social Work (SSW) was founded when Smith College administrators joined the country’s preeminent psychiatrists to address the nation’s growing mental health crisis. And ever since, SSW has been educating our students to approach clinical practice with a deep appreciation for the relationship between the social worker and the client, not only in the delivery of services, but as a mechanism to promote healing and growth.
As we celebrate Social Work Month, we celebrate the work of our faculty, alumni, friends and of social workers across the nation. Please share your own stories with friends, colleagues and neighbors to help elevate social work and give voice to the incredible impact our work has on others.
