The Lucy Daniels Center Secure Path Program has a new position open. LDC LOVES Smithies, as we are a psychoanalytically oriented organization. We are especially interested in someone who speaks Spanish.
We are a team of 5 home visitors (soon to be 6). We drive all over Wake County (which is pretty big). 150 miles some days, but I seem to average around 100 miles a day. But, I live in Durham (the neighboring county). The driving is not the best part, but it does offer decompression time between visits.
We visit caretakers (mostly mothers but some grandmothers and the rare dad) and children ages 0-5. We are visiting the Medicaid population. But our program is totally grant funded; so, we can see families that don't have any coverage at all but meet "greatest need" criteria. For Spanish speaking clinicians, we do see a lot of undocumented families.
The goal is to support secure attachment between caretaker and child. We do play therapy, parent guidance, parent therapy, joint parent/child play sessions... whatever seems to work (and limited case management). There are no requirements for Evidence Based Practices, and age is the only time limit. I do use ideas from Circle of Security. Understanding developmental trauma is important. As far as our funder, Smart Start is concerned, it's kindergarten readiness.
