The number one issue for students in classrooms across the country is the instructor’s' ability to facilitate difficult conversations as they emerge, particularly when dealing with issues of structural power, privilege and oppression as these play out interpersonally.
At Smith SSW we have our own model of group facilitation, Critical Conversations, that other schools are asking us to train them on. It is our goal to train every SSW instructor and adviser in this method, as well as all students, over the next few years.
This summer we are offering trainings on Wednesday, June 12th (Lilly Hall, 2nd Floor Conference Room) and Wednesday, July 17th (Dewey Common Room) from 5:00-8:00 p.m.
All faculty are strongly encouraged to attend one of the training sessions. These are appropriate for previously trained faculty who want to attend a booster, as well as those learning the process for the first time. CEs will be provided.
