Smith is dedicated to supporting the advancement of women in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). The Clark Science Center has established advising and mentoring resources to help students excel and be prepared for graduate school and professional opportunities.

Achieving Excellence in Mathematics, Engineering
and Science (AEMES)

Smith seeks to ensure access for all students interested in STEM courses and in obtaining research experiences. The AEMES program is led by students, faculty and staff. Working together, these teams promote the success of students from social groups historically underrepresented in STEM fields.

Prehealth Advising

The Prehealth Advising office provides support, guidance, recommendations, resources and more to Smith students considering a career in the health professions. A board of advisers assists students in successfully pursuing their interests in graduate schools and careers. Among a variety of activities and events, the office hosts a weekly lunchbag series for students interested in learning more about STEM fields.

STEM Careers

The STEM Careers website helps students explore majors in relation to graduate programs and careers. Students can speak with departmental faculty as well as advisers at the Lazarus Center for Career Development to explore opportunities.

STEM Posse

With support from the Posse Foundation, Smith announced its commitment to enroll 10 low-income students each year who seek majors and careers in STEM fields. Smith was also awarded a grant from the Association of American Colleges and Universities aimed at increasing diversity and equity in STEM fields.
