Religion Liaisons

Nina Gagnon '17
Nina Gagnon is a senior French and Religion double major. Her focus within the religion major is the ways in which women practice and are represented within different religions. She spent last semester in Geneva working for an international anti-torture organization and studying French language. During her spring break in Geneva, she traveled to Lourdes, France and was inspired to write an upcoming senior thesis about the ways in which disability, healing, and religion intersect in the context of holy pilgrimage. She hopes to enroll in an MSW/M.Div. program after graduation.

Lacey Harvey '19
While she grew up in an agnostic family, Lacey's interest in religion started in childhood when she converted to Christianity. Her religious curiosity has grown into academic one at Smith and she sees her double major in English as another way to explore the impact of religion on our culture, and the relationship we have with religion as a culture. These days Lacey interns for Cathedral in the Night, a local organization that helps people experiencing poverty and homelessness in the Pioneer Valley, and apprentices with Intervarsity, a Christian program on campus. She has a fierce passion for the links among faith, religious expression, and social justice work and hopes to continue to discover the ways these pieces function together. (Spot Lacey in between those giant sequoias!)
