Project Coach employs and empowers teens to coach, teach and mentor elementary schoolchildren in Springfield, Massachusetts, at schools that are typically struggling to meet minimum academic standards. For many of these young students, Project Coach offers the only access they get to sports and fitness programs.
Teen coaches get meaningful paying work while gaining skills that will serve them for a lifetime. They graduate high school and many go on to pursue higher education. They become goal setters, communicators and initiative takers, contributing to their communities in positive ways.
Talented Smith students get to explore teaching, coaching and working with urban youth on a wide range of educational and social issues.
Participating schools and local sponsors get to help their communities thrive.
