First-year students are not eligible to apply. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a passport, valid through July 2018, in order to apply.


The deadline for application to this program is Thursday, October 12, 2017, at 4:00p.m.

We are seeking applicants in good academic standing, with academic training and interests that are complementary to the program. One should be mature and culturally sensitive, with good interpersonal skills, and have the motivation and focus to succeed in an academically intensive and physically challenging environment. The Tibetan Studies in India Program is tremendously rewarding, and it can be life changing, but it is also challenging. With that in mind, please answer the following:

Please list the college-level courses you have taken that have prepared you for this program. In what ways have they prepared you? (50-100 words)

How does this program fit into your chosen course of study (i.e. major, minor, concentration) at Smith or your home institution? What do you hope that this program will provide you in terms of academics? (100-200 words)

  1. Academic transcript
    An unofficial transcript is acceptable. Please provide in .pdf format.

  2. Color scan of your passport
    In order to apply for the program, your passport must be valid through July, 2018. Your passport must also have at least two blank visa pages. Both of these requirements are necessary for your visa application to be processed by the India Consulate.  Please provide in .pdf format.
