“Queer Eye” Designer Tan France to Speak at Smith

Tan France—designer, author and star of Netflix’s Queer Eye—will speak at Smith College at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 7. Doors open at 6:15 p.m.

The event, which will take place in John M. Greene Hall, is open to the public, though tickets are required. Ticket prices range from free to $15; see “Ticket Information” below.

About Tan France

Tan France has been a successful fashion designer behind the scenes for more than 15 years, and in 2018 stepped into the spotlight as the star of Emmy-winning makeover hit and Netflix re-boot  “Queer Eye.” 

Surrounded by an all new cast, France is the witty wardrobe wiz leading the charge in the fashion department, ready to make America fabulous again one makeover at a time. “This experience is so much more than just new clothes to the British born fashion advisor,” his bio notes. “It’s about real-life issues, changes and acceptance on all sides.” 

Tan France is the creative mind behind successful brands including Kingdom & State, and Rachel Parcell, Inc. Before his personal success as a designer, he spent his summers working in his grandfather’s denim factory while he secretly enrolled in fashion college in preparation to start a new chapter as a fabulous design star. 

The Netflix reboot of “Queer Eye” strays from New York City and in the first two seasons moved to Atlanta, Georgia, as the Fab 5 took on men in the red state. Viewers experienced a range of emotions as the Fab 5 made over Trump supporters and average Americans — sometimes  demonized in the current political climate — forging relationships with men and women from a wide array of backgrounds and beliefs often contrary to their own. Discussing everything from LGBTQ rights to the important social commentary on how to feel your best from the inside out, the new Fab 5 are giving men the proper tools for living their best life.

This event is organized by the Student Event Committee at Smith. 

Advance tickets are required and are now available online.

No backpacks are allowed, and proper ID will be required for entrance.

• Smith and Five College Faculty and staff — $10
• Smith Alums — $10
• General public — $15
