Smith College Archives

The Smith College Archives are open to all individuals with an interest in understanding the varied and changing aspects of Smith history. The Smith College Archives share facilities with the Sophia Smith Collection on level A of Alumnae Gymnasium, which is adjacent and connected to Neilson Library.

Sophia Smith Collection

The Sophia Smith Collection at Smith College is an internationally recognized repository of manuscripts, archives, photographs, periodicals and other primary sources in women's history. It was founded in 1942 to be Smith College library's distinctive contribution to the college's mission of educating women.

Five Colleges, Incorporated

Five Colleges, Incorporated, is a nonprofit educational consortium established in 1965 to promote the broad educational and cultural objectives of its member institutions, which include four private, liberal arts colleges and the Amherst campus of the state university. The consortium is an outgrowth of a highly successful collaboration in the 1950s among Amherst College, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst, which resulted in the founding of a fifth institution, Hampshire College, in 1970.

January 23, 2012: The report by Project Research Associates Vivian Acosta and Linda Carpenter on the status of women in intercollegiate sport has just been released. The report found at www.acostacarpenter.ORG includes data showing the highest number of women's teams as well as the highest number of female athletes!
