Also noteworthy are the Fulbright Fellowships—14 winners and four finalists—that will send new or recent Smith alumnae on scholarly expeditions around the globe.

In the four years 2004–07, Smith has produced 62 student Fulbright Fellows (84 in the seven years 2001–07), the most among colleges nationwide and at a success rate (ratio of winners to applicants) about double the national average.

In addition to its relatively high number of Fulbright Fellows in 2009, Smith helped 20 current students and alumnae win fellowships with other prestigious programs, including five Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellows, four Blumberg Traveling Fellows, two DAAD Fellows for study abroad in Germany, two French Government Teaching Assistantships, and one Goldwater Scholar for study in the sciences, mathematics and engineering.
