See the Sky Light Up Over Smith College

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Fireworks will illuminate the sky over Paradise Pond in the heart of the Smith College campus Friday, Oct. 24, beginning at 9:30 p.m., in celebration of Family Weekend. In the case of rain, the fireworks will be rescheduled to the same time on the following evening, Oct. 25.

The public is invited to join Smith students and their family members, faculty and staff gathering around campus for the evening affair. Among the vantage points that will offer a view of the fireworks are sites along West Street, including the Smith stables, outdoor tennis courts and athletic fields, and, on Green Street, Sage Hall.

The event is expected to be about 20 minutes and was added to Family Weekend this year to emphasize the festive nature of the three-day schedule of activities.

Other events slated for families of Smith College students that weekend include a Mill River foliage walk departing from the boathouse on Paradise Pond, a brunch accompanied by the music of the Smith College Jazz Ensemble, and a soccer match against Wheaton College.

This year, Smith welcomed 647 first-year students, 47 Ada Comstock Scholars -- or students of nontraditional age -- 65 transfer students, and four visiting students, an entering class totaling 763.
