Smith College Department of Public Safety to Relocate

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.—The Smith College Department of Public Safety will relocate its headquarters Monday, March 20, at the beginning of Spring recess, a week when many students are not on campus.

The department will move to Tilly Hall, situated off Elm Street between Henshaw Avenue and Round Hill Road, from its location on Level B of the south addition of Neilson Library. The new building is in an area of campus that is directly across from College Lane, the main entrance to Smith College.

Necessitated by the fact that the department outgrew its space in the Neilson Library, its relocation to Tilly Hall will double the square footage available to the department. The new building also offers the benefit of on-site parking and is accessible by two driveways.

“This building is a better fit for the size of our department,” said Paul Ominsky, chief of public safety, who oversees a force of 18 officers and staff. “We look forward to continuing to serve the Smith community in our new location.”
