On January 15, 2019, Hampshire College announced its intent to seek a long-term partner that would allow the college to achieve a sustainable financial future.

Q: Has Hampshire College approached Smith College regarding any partnership opportunities?
A: No.

Q: Has Smith College made special admission accommodations for current or prospective Hampshire College students?
A: Yes. Following Hampshire College’s January 15, 2019, announcement, Smith extended its regular decision deadline to February 15, 2019, for any prospective students who had committed to Hampshire via its early decision process. Additionally, the college extended its application deadline for students who were accepted to Hampshire College in 2018 and chose to take a gap year.

Although Smith has a preferred deadline of February 1, the college does accept transfer applications through May 15. Additional information about transferring is available.

Q: Has Smith College issued any statements regarding Hampshire’s announcement?
A: Yes. President McCartney’s January 15, 2019 letter to the community followed Hampshire’s announcement.
