The Best of Smith 2007

As the promise of the new year approaches, it’s time to revisit 2007 as viewed through The Grécourt Gate. The year began with the news that Smith would welcome the 14th Dala Lama, the leader of the world’s Tibetan Buddhist community, to campus in May. It was the year celebrity chef and alumna the late Julia Child ’34 joined the National Women's Hall of Fame; the year Smith joined a national climate pact and kicked Coca-Cola off campus. For the first time in years, rain forced the commencement ceremony indoors—where Gloria Steinem ’56 took the stage to a standing ovation—but rain could not derail the Ford Hall groundbreaking ceremony later in the summer. See below for the Best of Smith 2007.
