Smith College yesterday announced several updates related to the college's ongoing response to COVID-19.

The complete email announcement is online.

Among other things:

Building Access

  • All college buildings (including academic buildings and residential houses) are now closed to the public.
  • The Lyman Plant House, Smith College Museum of Art, and all athletic and recreational facilities are now closed.
  • The Campus Center will remain open on weekdays and requires a Smith I.D. for entrance.

Working Remotely

The college is preparing to move to an environment in which only limited, critical operations will continue on campus. All other operations, including the majority of staff work, will be done remotely. Ideally, this transition will be completed by the close of business Wednesday, March 18, if not sooner.

Accelerated response

Students are required to move out of campus housing by Friday, March 20; yesterday’s announcement asks them to accelerate their departure if possible. Students who have been approved to remain on campus may not travel beyond Northampton.
