Smith Athletics Hall of Fame Seeks Nominees

It all started with Senda Berenson, notes Brittany Caine '14 in an essay about Smith sports history. (Read her essay.)

But of course, there are many other people who also deserve consideration for induction into the Smith Athletics Hall of Fame. Submit a nomination.

Do you remember a standout teammate? Did you have a favorite coach or team at Smith?

Alumnae like Ann Miller 96, perhaps, who is a member of the 1,000-point club in the sport of basketball? Or Barbara King 83, who was the NCAA diving champion as a senior? What about Jane Slocum Deland 69, who was a leader in the world of squash?

These are just a few of the people that have been nominated for the inaugural class of the Smith Pioneer Athletics Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame seeks your nominations for athletes, coaches, administrators and teams that have left their mark on athletics at Smith. Nominations for the first class of inductees will be accepted them until January 15, 2012.

Nominated athletes must have been graduated from Smith for at least 10 years. There are two categories for athletes: one from the varsity era, which encompasses the period of 1971 to 2002; and the pre-varsity era, which includes the rich era of sporting tradition up to 1971.

Coaches and administrators must be five years removed from employment at Smith, while teams must have had an outstanding record or accomplishment such as, but not limited to: qualifying for the NCAA Championship, winning an ECAC Championship, or an undefeated season.
