Night of Spontaneous Art
do you get when you invite a bunch of people to an art gallery
to make art late in the evening, with the promise that whatever
they come up with will be displayed publicly?
That’s exactly what organizers
of Spontaneous Art Night will find out this Saturday, Sept.
30, from 8 to 10 p.m. when students arrive at the Campus Center’s
Nolen Art Lounge. All those interested in creating art are
invited to the gallery to relax, socialize and see what art
“The art lounge is a place
for students to express themselves, as well as share their
thoughts and ideas with others,” says Emily Casey ’09,
an intern at the gallery and coordinator of the event. “I
hope that during Spontaneous Art Night students will be able
to relax and let out their creative side as they become acquainted
with the space.”
Attendees of Spontaneous Art
Night are assured that, at the end of the night, whatever
art they come up with will be affixed to the gallery’s
walls for a two-week exhibition.
Spontaneous Art Night is coordinated
in conjunction with an event on October 4 and 5 in which student
films will be screened in the Nolen Gallery to explore connections
between art and reality, says Casey.
“It is my hope that these
more structured forays into the gallery will encourage students
to enter it on their own and regard it as a space for relaxing
and chatting with their friends,” she said.
