Changing the Face of Science and Engineering

Smith is preparing to welcome some 75 accomplished alumnae to campus April 20-22 for “Smith College: Changing the Face of Science and Engineering.” The gathering is intended to reconnect these science and engineering leaders and emerging leaders to Smith, introduce them to the college’s ambitions for science and engineering, and provide an opportunity for students and faculty to interact with graduates working in a range of fields. Many of the visiting alumnae are expected to stay for “Celebrating Collaborations.”

A highlight of the program will be a panel discussion at 4:15 p.m. Friday, April 21, at the Alumnae House, focusing on Smith’s role in advancing opportunities for women in science and engineering. Students, faculty and staff are invited to the panel, and to the tea that follows at 5:30. The panelists are:

June Almenoff, Class of 1978; Vice President, Clinical Safety and Pharmacovigilance, GlaxoSmithKline

Suzanne Hammond Corkin, Class of 1959; Professor of Behavioral Neuroscience, MIT

Martha Dennis, Class of 1964; Telecommunications technologist, entrepreneur, venture capitalist

Madeleine Fackler, Class of 1980; Vice President, Information Management, and CIO, LifeScan

Catherine T. Hunt, Class of 1977; Leader, Technology Partnerships, Rohm and Haas

Xiaole (Shirley) Liu, Class of 1997; Assistant Professor of Biostatistics, Harvard University and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute

Pearl Toy, Class of 69; Professor of Laboratory Medicine, Univ. of California San Francisco
