Christine de Pizan Prize in Medieval Studies

The prize is named after Eleanor Shipley Duckett who began teaching Latin at Smith in 1916, was named the John M. Greene Professor of Classical Languages and Literature in 1928 and wrote four books of medieval history and hagiography before retiring in 1949. Duckett's distinction, and the encouragement she received from President William Allan Neilson, was part of the inspiration for establishing a degree-granting Medieval Studies progrm at Smith. The program will award the prize to the graduating senior with the highest GPA in courses used to fulfill the requirements of the MED major.
