Locations & Study Spaces
Smith College Libraries collections and services are distributed across the campus in four locations: Neilson Library, Hillyer Art Library, Werner Josten Performing Arts Library, and Robert and Anita O’K. Young Science Library. Each library offers a variety of study spaces and staff to assist users with their research and help them access collections at Smith and beyond.
The Libraries provide a range of study spaces for individuals and groups ranging from quiet to noise-tolerant which are furnished with a variety of seating and technology options including individual carrels, reservable study rooms, traditional library reading tables, easy chairs and sofas, as well as collaborative group-work set-ups with movable furniture, whiteboards, screen sharing software, and media equipment.
Have you already asked yourself this question? The Libraries have a solution: SmithScape, a new app for Smithies! SmithScape will help students find places to study across campus that meet specific criteria, such as lighting and ambient noise, as well as the availability of amenities such as printers, whiteboards, outlets, and vending machines.
The app is free and will be available this summer in pilot mode via the Libraries’ website, as well as via the App Store for iOS and Google Play Store for Android. The app will be officially released to the campus community in Fall 2017.
