Subject-Based Collections

The Subject-based Collections are "artificial" collections, created by archivists from a variety of sources (by donation and purchase) around a particular subject. Unlike standard archival collections, which are created by individuials or organizations and donated as a whole to Special Collections.

The Subject-based Collections consist primarily of printed materials (such as pamphlets, articles, books, periodicals, clippings, fliers, broadsides, and other ephemera), but also include organization records, biographical materials, correspondence, manuscripts, photographs, and audiovisual materials. The most extensive subject-based collections focus on women's rights, suffrage, peace, and women's liberation movements, education and employment, and the activities of American women abroad. Collections date as far back as 1540, though the bulk of materials date from the nineteenth to mid-twentieth century and new materials are added on a regular basis.

Links to finding aids are included, below, if they are available online. When they are not included, findings aid are available in Special Collections. Please contact us to request a copy.
