Smith Reads: We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves

Smith Reads is a first-year reading experience for all students new to Smith College. This includes first-year students, Ada Comstock Scholars and transfer students. Entering students will meet in small groups to discuss the book.

Neilson Library Construction Update, July 13, 2018

Due to forecasted thunderstorms and lightning risk during the use of pump trucks on Tuesday July 17, we will be postponing this concrete pour to the following day (backup date): Wednesday, July 18, 2018.

On Wednesday, July 18 the first major concrete pour will take place at the new Neilson Library. This will be one of the largest pours for the project and involve two large concrete pumpers and the delivery of approximately 120 loads of concrete via cement mixers to the two pumpers. One pumper will be set up on the site at 5:30 a.m. between Hatfield and Wright Hall. A second pumper will be positioned on the site between Wright Hall and the 1909 Neilson shell. The first concrete delivery will arrive at 6 a.m. and the final delivery is expected 15 hours later at 9 p.m. Read more...

All Smith Libraries are closed Wednesday, July 4 and Saturday-Sunday, July 7-8. Hours in Young are reduced during the week of July 9.

Neilson Library Construction Update, June 14, 2018

Hammering will commence on the south end of the construction site Monday, June 18, 2018, and continue throughout the week. The concrete structure being removed is robust so several days of hammering will be required to remove it. Read more...

Neilson Library Construction Update, June 7, 2018

This week, building demolition on the north end of the site will be completed. Concrete slabs on this end are being removed to make way for structural concrete mats for the new building. The removal will require loud hammering through Thursday afternoon, June 7th. On Friday, the floor of the north excavation will be prepared for the placement of insulation and waterproofing.
