Margaret Sanger with sister Ethel (Higgins) Byrne in courtroom, Brooklyn, NY, 1916. Sanger was indicted for violating obscenity laws by sending "indecent" materials through the mail in the form of her radical newspaper "The Woman Rebel". The charges were later dismissed. (Margaret Sanger Papers).
