Reserving a Carrel

  • Hillyer Art Library carrels may be reserved only by Smith College students.
  • Carrels are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Priority is given to thesis students, honor students, and seniors.
  • Carrels must be reserved in-person at the art library service desk. Students must present a valid Smith ID to reserve a carrel.
  • Carrel reservations are for the entire semester and must be renewed at the beginning of each semeter.

  • All items placed on carrels and patron shelves must be checked out at the art library service desk.
  • When an item is checked out, art library staff will flag it with a colored streamer. This streamer must be kept in the item until it is returned.
  • Items that do not have colored streamers will be removed from carrels and shelves and returned to the stacks.
  • Items on loan to carrels may be recalled for reserve or use by other patrons. Carrel patron will receive email notification of the new due date.
