STORAGE AND BACKUP METHODS


Your network drive:

  • Personal network drives provided by ITS are routinely backed up, so your backup will have a backup.

  • Used for work-related data files only.

  • DO NOT back up full images of your hard drive to the H: drive.

  • More information can be found on the Network Storage page in the Networking category.

Google Drive:

  • Easily share and collaborate with other users.

  • Unlimited storage on your Smith account.

  • Files stored on Google Drive are encrypted, whcih meets regulatory needs for secure storage.

External hard drives:

  • You can checkout an external hard drive from Smith Media Studios.

  • Are readily available and getting less expensive all the time.

  • Offer large amounts of storage. You can back up your entire computer with a large enough external hard drive.

  • Must be carried with you to use.

USB Flash drive (Jump Drive):

  • Are readily available, inexpensive, and very small.

  • Are extremely portable and can be used on any computer with an available USB port.

  • Must be carried with you to use.
