Landscape as Learning Tool: Ecosystem Analysis and Interpretation of the Smith College Campus

Funded by the B. Elizabeth Horner Fund in the Biological Sciences, Summer Research Fellows Program

Background research and concept development for an Ecological Tour of the Smith Campus aimed at students grades three through five. Defined seven main concepts of ecology and identified sites to demonstrate them at locations throughout the Botanic Garden. Concepts include the impact of invasive species on an ecosystem, climate and plant hardiness, nutrient flow through an ecosystem, and relationships between species. Tour designed with MA Public School System curriculum frameworks in mind.
