Campus Trees Take a Hit!

October snowstorms can be devestating to deciduous trees especially when they haven't dropped all their leaves yet. When heavy wet snow sticks to the leaves it creates a significant weight load. Yesterday's three inches of wet snow caused many limbs to come down and a few campus trees to uproot.

This image shows the remains of a red oak, Quercus rubra, in front of Neilson Library that was uprooted by the snow load. Fortunately, the foul weather kept everyone inside and out of the path when it came down.
