Alpinia Zerumbet, also known as shell ginger, is a perennial plant native to east Asia. It is grown as an ornamental and has medicinal as well as culinary uses. The flower stalk on this species droops and distinguishes it from others of this genus that carry their flowers on an upright stem. Alpinia formosana is one of these and is also blooming now!
