Leopard plant in bloom
October 19, 2017

Farfugium japonicum 'Aureomaculata', leopard plant, lives in the Asia section of the Cool Temperate House and is native to east Asia.

This exotic looking plant gets its common name from the dark green leaves speckled with pale yellow spots. It is a member of the aster family, the same family as the plants in the Fall Chrysanthemum Show!
This plant likes moist well drained soil but is surprisingly drout tolerant. In the northeast this is a house plant but in zones 6b to 10b it is perennial, blooming in October and November.
