Wood Lily

Lilium philadelphicum

THE WOOD LILY is a native plant of the upper Midwest. It is not to be found in the Lewis and Clark Herbarium, nor is there any mention of it in the journals. Frederick Pursh however, wrote that he saw specimens that had been collected by both Lewis and Thomas Nuttall, and that “the flowers are of an uniform deep scarlet colour, and are highly ornamental.”
