Music in the Noon Hour

12:30 pm, Sweeney Concert Hall, Sage Hall

With Mary Hubbell, soprano, and Monica Jakuc Leverett, piano

This concert will feature musical tributes to some of the champion-sized trees as well as other remarkable and historic tree specimens that grace the Smith College Campus Arboretum — now recognized as an accredited arboretum and as a Tree Campus USA.

Included in the program will be the world premiere of a new song about our dawn redwood, Metasequoia glyptostroboides, a specimen grown from seed collected in China in the 1940s. At that time, the species was discovered growing in the wild when it had long been thought to be extinct. Words by Lee Ann Dalton and music by Gregory W. Brown.

Sponsored by the Music Department, Music in the Noon Hour Concerts are a series of half-hour recitals by members of the Smith College Music Department and friends.

A Smith College Tree Committee Event.
