Add NameCoach Features to Moodle

NameCoach allows faculty, staff, and students to record and share the correct pronunciation of their names with other members of the course. There are two NameCoach tools for Moodle:

Note: Once an individual has recorded their name, that recorded audio will be available in any other course that has a name page added to it.

Record Your Name

To record your name, just visit this course and click on the Name Recording link.  An audio recorder with inline directions will come up.  If you have already recorded your name you will be able to hear and/or change your current recording.  You can always find this page by clicking on the NameCoach block that appears in the upper right of all courses.

Add a Name Page to Your Course

You can watch the video or follow written instructions below.

1

On your Moodle course page, on the upper-right side of the page, click Turn editing on.

2

In the section where you want the “NameCoach” activity to appear, click +Add an activity or resource. The “Add an activity or resource” dialog will be displayed.

3

In the “Add an activity or resource” dialog, choose External tool, then click Add. The “Adding a new External tool” page will open.

4

In the “Adding a new External tool” page, under the “Activity name” field, write Hear Name Recordings.

5

In the “External tool type” drop-down menu, choose NameCoach Name Page.

6

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Save and return to course.

Now anyone enrolled in the course can access the recorded names of everyone else in the course.  As an instructor, you can toggle between the “Recorded Names” and “Unrecorded Names” lists.
