Reassessing the Coolidge legacy

Former U.S. President Calvin Coolidge was living in a rooming house near Smith and the Clarke School for the Deaf, when he met his future wife, Grace Anna Goodhue. Of the match, a friend of Coolidge observed: “Miss Goodhue had taught the deaf to hear; now she might be able to teach the mute to speak.”
