Seeking Smith Students to Tutor at the Gerena Community School

The Gerena Community School, located in the North End of Springfield, enrolls 800 elementary students and resides in one of the state's poorest neighborhoods. Since 2003, Smith has enjoyed a partnership with the Gerena School in which Smith students work as tutors at the school and Gerena students visit Smith for educational programs. Benefit Performance by Acclaimed Actor/Director Vincent Dowling

The Hampshire County Smith Club proudly presents "Prose, Poetry, and Postulations: An Afternoon with Vincent Dowling," at 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, in Earle Recital Hall. A reception will follow the performance. Tickets for the February 18 Mardi Gras Madness fundraising event for Hurricane Katrina relief will be available for purchase ($10 each) in front of the Campus Center Cafe Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays starting January 18 from noon-1:30 p.m. All proceeds from ticket sales and auction will be donated to Foundations for Recovery. Smith College Appoints New HR Director
Lawrence P. Hunt, currently assistant director of human resources at the J. Paul Getty Trust, has been named executive director of human resources at Smith College. Prior to joining Getty in Los Angeles, Hunt was director of human resources at Tufts University in Boston, where he worked for 18 years. He will begin his position at Smith on March 1.
