Katherine Rowe

Provost and Dean of the Faculty

The Provost and Dean of the Faculty serves as the chief academic officer and works closely with the President of the College. She is responsible for the curriculum and for support for faculty teaching and research; she chairs the Committee on Academic Priorities and oversees the long-term composition of the faculty. Katherine comes to Smith from 16 years on the English faculty at Bryn Mawr College, where she helped lead curricular innovation and directed the Katharine Houghton Hepburn Center for leadership and public engagement. A scholar of literature and media history, she is co-founder of Luminary Digital Media, a social reading platform that is bringing literary works to mobile devices, including iPad apps of the Folger Library Shakespeare editions.


Bill E. Peterson

Associate Provost and Dean for Academic Development

Bill Peterson manages the academic budget of the College overseen by the Provost. He chairs the Committee on Faculty Compensation and Development and the Committee on Study Abroad. He has responsibility for faculty development, support in research and teaching, and serves as the director of sponsored research. Among his responsibilities are the Botanic Garden, the Clark Science Center, the Campus School, and non-tenure track faculty recruitment and hiring. Bill was hired as a faculty member in the Psychology Department in 1998. He is a personality psychologist with broad interests in adult development, narrative, and political psychology. Particular interests revolve around the constructs of authoritarianism and psychosocial generativity.


Danielle Carr Ramdath

Associate Dean of the Faculty

Danielle Ramdath serves as director of graduate programs and assists with faculty development initiatives. She serves as the staff liaison to the Committee on Academic Priorities, is Interim Director of the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program, and manages the staff and workflow in the Office of the Provost. Before coming to Smith in 2007, she taught mathematics at Bryn Mawr and Sarah Lawrence Colleges and served as a Program Officer in Higher Education at The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

Jayne Mercier     585-3006

Jayne is the Executive Assistant to the Provost and Academic Coordinator. She oversees the Provost's calendar and daily schedule and provides staff support, in collaboration with the Associate Dean of the Faculty, to the Committee on Academic Priorities (CAP), supervising the catalog preparation process, the decennial review process and the Liberal Arts Luncheon series. She serves as staff support for the Lecture Committee and provides supplemental support work for the Office of the Board of Trustees. Jayne also maintains our office's website.

Hayley Spizz     585-3005

As Faculty Policies Specialist, Hayley can help you with sabbatical eligibility as well as reappointment, tenure and promotion matters. She also provides support to the Chaired Professor Committee, Visiting Scholars Committee, Sherrerd Teaching Award Committee, Phi Beta Kappa, Emeriti Committee, administers the faculty listserv, and receives Faculty Record Sheets.

Cynthia Di Geronimo     585-3003

As Faculty and Salary Data Analyst, Cynthia manages information, processes, and records related to faculty and academic staff salaries and budgets, department and program staffing, appointments, and retirements. She also has responsibility for reports, analysis, and surveys in these areas pertaining to faculty salaries and appointments, and advises on related issues and systems.

Saari Greylock     585-3007

Saari serves as the Budget and Faculty Recruitment Specialist for the Provost's Office. She administers the office budgets and is the point of contact for all financial questions, including all CFCD grants and Fellowships, starter and research grants, one-time funding commitments from our office, and annual department budget requests. She also administers faculty and course support searches, providing training and guidance for search committees and ensuring faculty recruitment compliance with College policy and applicable law.

Emily Robinson     585-3010

Emily serves as the Sponsored Research Office Administrator, working with faculty and staff in the preparation of externally sponsored grant proposals. In addition, Emily assists with appointment letters for a number of regulatory boards; she provides financial tracking and management of institutional grants overseen within the Provostís Office as well as PI indirects funding; she is the point-of-contact for UMass-Amherst graduate student research assistant appointments; and she works with the Associate Provost on the Online Learning Task Force.

Ruth Morgan     585-3053

Ruth is the program assistant for graduate programs. She provides support work related to all aspects of our graduate offerings and works closely with the director of graduate programs, as well as departmental graduate advisers.

Patty Tran     585-3000

Patty serves as our Schedule Coordinator; working in concert with the deans' assistants, she handles the calendar for the Provost, Associate Provost and Associate Dean of the Faculty, and is the master scheduler for all standing individual and committee meetings, as well as other meetings and events for the Office of the Provost/Dean of the Faculty. Patty handles Course Reader Appointments and supports New Faculty Orientation and the Faculty Development Workshops.
